Brock ElementaryGeneral Brock Elementary School is a small community-based school located at 33rd and Main. Brock has a history of 100 years, expanding from one original wooden building to the present three buildings. There are approximately 215 students attending and they represent a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Twenty–six languages are spoken with over half of our students speaking English as their second language. Students live in neighbourhood houses or in the BC Housing complex. Over the past year, the BC Housing project has moved many families into different housing facilities; this has had the effect of reducing our enrolment and also changing the demographics of the school. We are delighted that many of our students take the bus and continue to attend our school.

There are two VSB District classes at General Brock in addition to 14 integrated Special Needs students. The district classes are a Low Incidence Resource Program (LIRP) for students with developmental delays and the Extended Learning Assistance Class (ELAC) for students with severe learning difficulties.

The teachers, staff and parents support the goal of Literacy-Reading and direct their Professional development, meetings and school wide focus towards this goal. This has been our goal for a number of years as we continue to entrench programs and strategies that will enable excellent reading results throughout all grades in the school.

General Brock provides a strong academic program combined with a focus on the socialemotional development of children, especially in the area of Social Responsibility. We have a full athletic program, an established strong music and dance program and many extra-curricular activities. There are many after school activities offered to students.

General Brock receives Inner City funding and staffing. We are a partner with the VSB in both the Literacy Innovation Project and the Early Intervention program. We have an extensive Pre-Kindergarten program (Ready, Set, Learn) that provides Kindergarten readiness skills to both students and parents.

We are proud to have a reputation for students who are generally kind and respectful to both themselves and others. They work hard to achieve success in all aspects of their school life.
